LPW - Illinois, Mary Stuart, 15J, 8S, 14K gold drum style original A.W.Co. HC with attractive engine turning and engraving detail, front shield with initial, gold cuvette with engraved name, white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, gilt mvt, marked "Adjusted," s#103385. Gross weight of assembled watch 42.3 dwt (65.7 g). A rare watch with a total production of 400 made; intact original examples with gold case are seldom seen. The Mary Stuart was named for the Illinois Watch Co's President's wife and was the highest quality of the named 8 size Illinois grades. This particular example was formerly owned by Illinois Watch Co. author and researcher Bill Meggers and comes with his distinctive inventory card and bag as pictured noting his acquisition of the watch for $590 in 1980, his observations of the watch, and noting all repairs during his ownership.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking somewhat sluggishly on a full wind, overhaul recommended, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, some mild haze spots and few micro-fine scratches; dial with scattered light hls; fine hands, hour and minute are blue, seconds-hand is plum colored; case shows very little wear, few pinpoint nicks, excellent engine turning and engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
